Many countries have come to regard gifted education as a key national programme and gifted education in science disciplines is now being recognised as of major importance for economic and technological development. Despite these initiatives and developments across many national contexts, there are very few discussions on gifted education in science from international perspectives. In support of an international dialogue between researchers and practitioners, often working within isolated traditions, this book offers information on key influential approaches to science education for gifted learners and a survey of current policy and practice from diverse national contexts. It aims to inform those new to studying gifted science education, introduce critical thinking about issues, influences and the complexities of providing science education for the gifted, discuss a variety of research methods and case studies in the field, and most importantly invite critical reflection on current policy and practices.
