商品簡介
This two-volume set is published in conjunction with the previously published first and second volumes (French Vernacular Books; Books Published in the French Language Before 1601)--the four comprising a complete overview. The present volumes include information on books printed in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew as well as other European vernacular languages. The introductory essay explains the scope, including defining France in this period, which is not a straightforward geographical designation. The essay also offers a brief history of printing and the book trade in France over time; discussion of various types of books--religious, legal, scientific; and some details of the method of description employed for this bibliography (and some of the practicalities of assembling accurate information, including copy locations). Indexing for all four volumes is included in this set, including an index of printers and booksellers. Annotation c2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
