Amos Parisman, LA's oldest and most stubborn Jewish gumshoe, has never learned how to properly retire.
But he has little to do and his options are narrowing by the day. Then, on his morning walk around Park La Brea, where he lives with his debilitated wife, he gets lucky: he stumbles upon a grisly crime scene. Someone has killed a homeless woman and thrown her battered corpse into a dumpster. She has no ID and her face is unrecognizable. Amos' comrade, Lieutenant Mallory, who is in charge of the case, tell him not to get involved, that it's not his problem. But the plot thickens when other local homeless people start turning up dead.
The police are clueless, and realize they could probably use someone unconventional like Parisman, someone who may to be as equipped or have access to all their technology, but who nonetheless knows the neighborhood and is willing to go the extra mile to defend it.
