As a result of much reflection during lockdown 2020 I decided to put my thoughts down, concerning the changes in Family Doctoring and General Practice since I retired. I came up with a book which I called, The Life and Decline of the Family Doctor. When I tried to get it published I was told that the 'confessional/professional' genre was flooded. I explained that my genre was 'quirky parochial' without impressing that Publisher. (Not this one ) When I finished it, there was still much in my head and it occurred to me that the experience of being a medical Student in the 1960s and a junior Doctor in the 1970s was also a fading memory and a tale to be told. It was the time of 'Withnail and I' and a flavour of Sir Lancelot Spratt. Work was hard and failure brutal. Amazingly, my fellow students and I, despite all the hardship, survived and prospered with a resilience which modern doctors envy. This is my tale.
