Yes Plus Yes: A Memoir that is Also an Essay on Beauty, Desire, Love, Guilt, Self-Forgiveness, Drug Addiction and Alcoholism, Emotio

This memoir is the story of my life between the ages of 18 and 38 (Years 2000 to 2020), and the moral significance of that time for me, touching upon issues ranging from being an adult virgin, and the loss of virginity, and sexuality, and being LGBT (being gay), to having body image problems, shyness, Social Anxiety Disorder, Autism, drug addiction and alcoholism, mental health and mental illness, low self-esteem, homophobia, and gay pride, coming out of the closet, gender, guilt, shame, embarrassment, stigma, fear, love, desire, lust, and things as basic as the human condition, and what it means to be human. The story begins my freshman year at Vassar College, where I spiraled down into drug addiction and alcoholism, and it ends 20 years later, when I have my first sexual experience with another human being. In between the start and the end is a story of adversity, trials, and triumph.
But this book is also an essay on aesthetics (the philosophical study of beauty), with a focus on that area of human existence where ideas about beauty are at their most practical and least theoretical, namely, human sexuality and romantic love. The study is viewed from the point of view of the philosophy of Objectivism, and this lively and interesting book makes several points about Objectivism and sex, because, unlike most systems of thought, Objectivism regards sex as a virtue, not a sin, and holds that your choice of lovers, and your concept of beauty, is a reflection of your values and your sense of self-esteem.
This book is a practical self-help book that is useful to you and from which you will learn something you did not already know, in the sense that, as the memoir of someone who has lived his entire life with shyness and low-self-esteem, I explain how I survived, and the different ways and techniques that I have developed over the course of my life for how I boosted my self-esteem and went from being a closeted drug addict to being an out, proud and (slightly) more self-confident person. I am not an expert and I have no medical or psychological background, and my methods have no formal vetting, but, hey, it works for me
Ultimately, this philosophy essay is my memoir, and is a defense of my existence as a human being, in ways that will become apparent when you read the book.
