Sleeping Beauty ― Adapted for the Stage

The world spins and the cycle of seasons turns as the Guardians of the Year gather to tell each other stories. As a new Winter begins it is time to tell another tale. . . A kingdom is in peril, its people driven to flee their homes as a dark forest covers the land. The King and Queen are missing and Prince Roland, only heir to the kingdom, lies sleeping, cursed never to awaken. . . All seems lost, and it falls to one young woman with a strong heart, aided by strange companions, to find her way to the castle at the heart of the enchanted forest. Once there, it will take a genuine act of love to break the curse and free the kingdom.

Matt Beames is a writer based in the Southampton area. He has been writing for well over ten years, and his work has been performed in various productions in the South of England and in the Midlands, ranging from short plays or extracts to full length productions. The first professional production of his work was the one act play Into the Calm Sea, which was produced at The Point, Eastleigh in 2013. Matt is also a founding member of Beautiful Shadows, a new theatre company with a focus on creating work with thought-provoking, occasionally darker overtones. Matt was commissioned to write The Berry Theatre's production of The Legends of Sir Bevis as part of the Road to Agincourt project and Alice's Adventures The Point Youth Theatre's summer 2016 outdoor production. Whilst his main focus is writing for the theatre, Matt also writes poetry and fiction. His current non-theatre projects include creating a comic book adaptation of the story of Bevis of Hampton, Southampton’s legendary figure.
