Hinduism, asserts Ilaiah (political science, Osmania U., India), has set itself on the course of suicide by its adoption and maintenance of the caste system and by its anti-production and anti-scientific ethic. He explores the knowledge systems of Brahmanic Hinduism and compares them unfavorably with those of Dalit-Bahujan (i.e. "lower caste") communities, arguing that the tensions between the two (as well as over temporal political and economic power) could easily lead to a civil war and, even if it does not, it spells Hinduism's doom because the spiritual and political aspirations of the latter are leading to the expansion of "spiritually democratic" religions like Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam. In essence, his call for a "post-Hindu" India is a call for an end to the caste culture and system, "a self-constructed disease with a self-determined course."
