Chua and Lim present documents relating to the formation and development of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) since its founding in 1967. Much of the material is from an earlier compilation covering 1967-99 that was never published but circulated among schools in Taiwan. Aside from updating the compilation, they focus on documents that have an impact on security in the region. The sections are the founding Bangkok Declaration; the Zone of Peace, Freedom, and Neutrality; ASEAN Concord; Treaty of Amity and Cooperation; the Vietnam-Cambodia conflict; after the Cold War; the ASEAN Charter; regional forum; defense ministers' meetings; China and the South China Sea; and non-traditional security.
