This oversized title (8 1/4 x 11 3/4") collects the findings of twenty-seven contributors who completed archaeological investigations between 2003-2005 along the 6km route of the A505 Baldock bypass in Hertfordshire, England. The evidence spans the late Neolithic to the medieval period, although no evidence for activity from the later 5th century to the beginning of the 11th century was found. What was found were bowl-shaped pits, barrows, occasional post-holes, pottery, Roman boundary ditches, a hint of the enclosure of the 13th century hospital of St. Mary Magdalene in the parish of Clothall, later evidence of pigs kept, and a yet later switch to a pastoral economy based on cattle and sheep as one creeps forward to the medieval days of Baldock's wealth from wool.
