The book contains essays on current issues in Social and Political Sciences, such as the issues of governance and social order; social development and community development; global challenges and inequality; civil society and social movement; IT-based community and social transformation; poverty alleviation and corporate social responsibility; and gender issues. Asia and the Pacific are the particular regions that the conference focuses on as they have become new centers of social and political development. Therefore, this book covers areas that have been traditionally known as the social and political areas such as communication studies, political studies, governance studies, criminology, sociology, social welfare, anthropology and international relations. The book will help shed light on what social and political scholars in Asia and the Pacific have done in terms of research and knowledge development, as well as the new frontiers of research that have been explored and opening up, which can connect the two regions with the rest of the globe.

Rochman Achwan is professor of economic sociology at Department of Sociology, University of Indonesia. Indonesia. His works have been published by Journal of Developing Societies (2016), Journal of Contemporary Asia (2013), Asian Case Research Journal (2012), and Asian Journal of Social Science (2009). He has also coauthored a chapter in Michael Burawoy et al. (2010). Suraya Afiff?is part of the?Anthropology Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universtias Indonesia. She obtained her PhD in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from the University of California, Berkeley. She uses political ecology perspectives in her studies which are related to environmental and agrarian issues, access and control to land and other natural resources, climate change issues as well as on the agrarian and environmental justice movements in Indonesia. She has written articles in journals such as Environment and Planning A, Journal of Peasant Studies, Journal of Agrarian Change, and Alternatives, as well as authored several book chapters.

Isbandi Rukminto Adi is Professor in the field of Social Welfare. His research interest is on the field of community development and community empowerment; poverty aleviation and disaster programmes; child welfare and child protection; and social welfare policy, services and programmes. He has produced thirteen textbooks. He also has published several articles in journals, newspapers and actively involved in disseminating the importance of social welfare studies in different forums. He has achieved several awards, such as: "Asian Public Intelectual Award" from the Nippon Foundation (2004-2005); and "Endeavour International Research Award" from the Department of Education, Science and Training, Australia (2007-2008).
