Advanced Building Simulation

Building simulation, which began to be recognized as a discipline in the 1970s, has grown in complexity and breadth with every year. Editors Malkawi (architecture, U. of Pennsylvania) and Augenbroe (architecture, Georgia Institute of Technology) and contributors, primarily academics, examine various angles of simulation, including recent trends, the issue of uncertainty, simulations of interior and exterior conditions, self-organizing models for sentient buildings, developments in interoperability, and "immersive" building simulation. They include theories, computer applications and other design processes, and means of testing performance long before breaking ground. Ali Malkawi is an associate professor of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. He teaches architectural technology and computation and conducts research in the areas of computational simulation, building performance predictions, optimization and advanced visualization.

Godfried Augenbroe is an associate professor at the College of Architecture, Georgia Institute of Technology. He teaches courses in building science themes and conducts research in the fields of building performance concepts and simulation, control of smart systems and building monitoring and diagnostics.
