Defending the West ― The Truman-churchill Correspondence, 1945-1960

The correspondence between the US president and the British prime minister, which continued long after they both left office, reveals their construction of an Anglo-American confrontation with the specter of Soviet military power in the heart of Europe with the end of the Second World War and the surrender of Japan to the Allied powers in the Pacific. Sand (history, Saint Louis College of Pharmacy) arranges the letters in sections on the end of the Second World War, the Cold Wat to the Korean War, and the last years; and clarifies references and contexts in footnotes. G. W. SAND is Adjunct Professor of History at the Saint Louis College of Pharmacy. He holds a Ph.D. in American and Modern European History from Saint Louis University. He has also been a member of the Liberal Arts faculty of Concordia University Wisconsin, St. Louis Center, since 1994, and is the author of two books in 20th Century History and International Relations. In 1999-2000, he was a Visiting Fellow at Churchill College, Cambridge, England.
