A specialist in Homeric poetry, Maronites (emeritus, philosophy, U. of Thessaloniki) presents 10 essays written between 1978 and 1998 that he has rewritten, rearranged, and updated to comprise a coherent account of the relationship between the Iliad and the Odyssey, emphasizing how the poet of the Odyssey learned from the poet of the Iliad. He also reveals traces of their poetic technique and ideology in ancient lyric poetry and Attic drama. Only cited passages are indexed.
