A novel strain of Infiuenza A （H1N1） virus emerged and outbreak of Influenza A （H1N1) occurred worldwide， posing a severe threat to the health of human being. Influenza A （H1N1) virus is highly mutable. Research indicated that the pathogenic novel strain appears to be a result of recombined virus gene segments from human influenza viruses and swine influenza viruses in animals before attacking human. Therefore， it has been predicted that the virus gene segments recombination is likely to cause the worldwide pandemic.
Influenza A （H1N1) viruses have an average latent period of 7 days. Infected cases， with an acute onset resembling to flu， show typical symptoms of fever， general upset， muscular pain， sore throat， running noses and cough， sometimes conjunctivitis， nausea， abdominal pain and diarrhea. Cases with consistent high fever should be given special attention. Chest X-ray for critically ill patients shows parenchymal infiammation of unilateral or bilateral lungs， some with accompanying pleural effusion. The overwhelming majority of slight cases are reported favorable prognosis while some progress rapidly to death as a result of multiple organs failure such as encephalitis， respiratory distress syndrome， respiratory failure， heart failure， renal failure and infectious shock. Pathological examinations reveal that histological changes are characterized by hemophagocytic syndrome （HPS)， including diffuse alveolar damage with accompanying fibrosis， extensive lobular central necrosis ofliver， acute renal tubular necrosis， lymphatic failure and increased soluble receptor IL-2 and IL-6 and interferon y. Its diagnosis should be differentiated from infiuenza， common old， bacterial pneumonia， infectious severe acute respiratory syndrome （SARS)， infectious monocytosis， cytomegalovirus infection， chlamydial pneumonia， and mycoplasmal pneumonia.
In the development of lnfluenza A （H1N1) virus， due to histomorphologically pathological changes， pathology constitutes the basis of diagnostic imaging while diagnostic imaging findings constitute the demonstrations of pathology. Therefore， based on diagnostic imaging findings， we attempt to completely and scientifically understand the nature of Infiuenza A （H1N1) by anatomy， autopsy and pathological examinations.
The author collected over 200 cases critical HINl-infected cases and over 100 cases were selected. For death cases from Influenza A （H1N1)， autopsy was performed for eight cases after their families informed consent. Over 200 reports on pathological and histological analysis as well as immunohistochemical and electroscopic analysis were obtained. This book therefore was compiled by comparing the published data with the present first-hand data.
This book addressed the diagnostic imaging of a newly emerging infectious disease based on the six published treaties on diagnostic imaging of HIV/AIDS. The book is intended to provide first-hand clinical data and their scientific analysis， thus serve clinical practice for Infiuenza A （H1N1) prevention and treatment as well as related scientific research.
This book includes a wealth of contents with DR， CT， MR imaging figures， pathological and histological figures， immunohistochemical and electroscopic figures. Related research， clinical and education needs can be readily satisfied by its detailed data， texts and figures， as well as typical cases reports.
