One More Sheep came to me, most annoyingly, when I was trying to get to sleep. My brain was irritatingly awake and perky and kept coming up with unhelpful suggestions like "Why don't you try counting sheep?", which led me into an inane and pointless speculation along the lines of: "Huh, I wonder how shepherds count sheep then? Bet they don't suffer from insomnia." I tend to write about what I know: temper tantrums, train journeys, tearful reunions. It's just the everyday stuff of my life - scraps of things I've experienced, aspects of people I know - all dressed up and disguised so that it looks like something else. Also by Mij Kelly: William and the Night-Train was included in The White Ravens 2002, the International Youth library's (Internationale Jugend Bibliothek) annual selection of outstanding picture books for children.
