《全新版大學英語》系列教材醞釀于上世紀末，誕生于新世紀初。
《全新版大學英語》系列教材依據現代外語教學理念，運用多媒體、網絡等現代教育技術，立足本國，博采眾長，完全自主編寫而成，是一套集紙質教材（學生用書、教師手冊、教學輔助用書等）、多媒體課件（助學光盤、電子教案、題庫等）和網絡學習系統之大成的立體化教材。
教材的編寫宗旨是：遵循外語教學的客觀規律，滿足我國當代大學生學習的實際需求，既適用于課堂教學又便于學生上機上網自主學習，既有利于鞏固語言基礎又能更好地培養學生較強的英語綜合應用能力，尤其是聽說能力，使他們在今后學習、工作和社會交往中能用英語有效地進行口頭和書面的信息交流。
教材按照《大學英語課程教學要求》編寫，供大學英語課程的一般要求和較高要求層次的教學使用。
教材編寫的指導方針是：充分汲取我國在外語教學中長期積累起來的行之有效的經驗和方法，詳盡分析、研究中國學生在英語學習過程中以及在跨文化交際中經常產生的問題，學習、借鑒國外的教學理論和方法并根據我國的教學需要和現有條件加以消化、改造、吸收，自行規劃、設計，自行選材、編寫。為此，本教材采用了集中外多種教學法之長的折中主義（eCleCtiCism）教學理念。教材的編寫原則是：
1．倡導基于課堂教學+計算機／網絡的新型教學模式。教學中多媒體和網絡技術的引進，既可改善語言教學環境和教學手段，又便于學生個性化學習和語言操練，有助于師生之間的溝通。但這一模式不應一成不變，它應隨著各校、各班級的具體情況而有所不同。此外，在利用現代信息技術的同時，應充分發揮傳統課堂教學的優勢，使之相輔相成。
2．提倡學生自主學習，同時主張充分發揮教師的主導作用。教師能否組織好教學——包括課堂教學和計算機輔助學習——是教學成敗的關鍵。除了課堂教學，教師更應加強課外輔導，應指導學生掌握正確的學習方法和學習策略。
3．在加強聽、說的同時，充分兼顧對學生讀、寫、譯等應用能力的培養，使學生能較好地掌握英語的書面語。這不僅是大學英語課程本身的性質所使然，更是我國多數大學生今后學習、工作的需要。而學生的外語學習，特別是說、寫方面的實踐活動，必須以讀、聽一定量的語言素材輸入為前提。因此，必須通過課堂內外、網上網下、大班小班、自學面授等一系列互動互補的教學環節，才能全面提高學生的聽、說、讀、寫、譯的應用能力。
4．選用當代英語的常見語體或文體的典型樣本作為素材。選文語言規范、富有文采、引人人勝、給人以啟迪；題材廣泛，以反映現實生活為主，科普內容亦占有一定比重；體裁多樣；語體兼顧書面語和口語。
5．充分考慮對學生的文化素質培養和國際文化知識的傳授。大學英語課程不僅是一門語言基礎課程，也是拓寬知識、了解世界文化的素質教育課程，兼有工具性和人文性。因此，教材在文化背景介紹和知識拓展方面也有相應的板塊設計。
6．主干教程——《綜合教程》——采用每一單元設一主題的形式。主題選自當代生活中的重大題材，以便將語言學習貫穿在了解、思考、探討現實生活中的各種問題的過程中，充分體現交際法的教學原則。其他教程的相應單元與該主題亦有一定的呼應。
7．練習設計從有利于提高學生語言應用能力出發，針對我國學生的薄弱環節和實際需要，做到有的放矢；形式盡可能采用交互方式，如pair work、group discussion、debate等，或采用“任務”方式（task—based appioach）。
8．考慮到學生參加大學英語四、六級考試的實際需要，除了在各教程中均設有一定數量的類似四、六級考題形式的練習外，還特地在《綜合教程》中參照四、六級考卷設計了Test You．rself，以幫助學生熟悉考試題型。教材框架如下：
《全新版大學英語》系列教材由紙質教材（含多媒體教學課件）和網絡學習系統（即新理念大學英語網絡教學系統）兩部分組成。網絡學習系統又包括網絡課件、教輔資源、網上測試和管理平臺四大部分。
紙質教材由以下教程組成：
綜合教程（1—6冊）（每冊由8個單元組成）
聽說教程（1—6冊）（每冊由14個單元組成）
閱讀教程（高級本）（1—6冊）（每冊由8個單元組成）

Pictures（d）-（e）present a traditional Chinese wedding held at home．In Picture（d），we can see a hall thronged with people．There are red lanterns hanging on both sides ofthe hall．On the lanterns are written the Chinese character“double happiness”．In Pic—ture（e）we can see the bridegroom’s parents seated in high—backed chairs．The bride andbridegroom are bowing to them．The bridegroom in his long gown looks VcrV respectful．The bride is dressed in bright red but we can’t see her face since it is covered with a pieceof red cloth．Along the two sides of the wedding hall stand the family members，relativesand friends．
Pictures（f）-（h）show a wedding banquet held in a big restaurant in China．InPicture（o，we can see the bride and the bridegroom standing at the entrance greetingthe guests．The bride wears a long white dress，and the bridegroom is in a tuxedo．InPicture（g），we find ourselves in a large banquet hall，decorated with the cheerful colorsof a wedding party．About a hundred guests are seated around tables that are graced witha11 kinds of delicious food and drinks．The host，who is the father of the bridegroom，ismaking a speech，expressing his thanks to the guests for coming to his son’s wedding．InPicture（h）the bride has changed to a traditional Chinese red gown，or qipao，which is el—egantly cut and shows her fine figure．She and the bridegroom are going round the tables，exchanging toasts and sharing a joyful moment with the guests．Comparing
From the pictures，we can see that a wedding is an important event everywhere inthe world．It has been so in China，for example，from the old days to the present and thesame holds true in Western countries．As a rule，there is a big ceremony，attended by fam—ily members，relatives and friends，who have come to share the joy of this special occasionin the lives of two people in love．Food is plentiful and laughter fills the air．To all thosepresent，the ceremony is both sacred and joyous．
However，while sacredness and joy are the spirit of all weddings，the way people ob—serve the occasion varies from place to place and changes over time．This is reflected invarious respects。First，in Western countries，many people get married in a church whilein China this is rare．Second，Western people often choose a scenic spot to hold weddingparties whereas most people in China give their wedding parties either at home or in arestaurant．Third，in Western countries，the color of the bride’s dress is white，which is asymbol of purity，while in China，traditionally，the color of the bride’s dress is red，whichis a symbol ofhappiness．
