People who spoke it probably called it Modern Babylonian, and considered in much superior to Old and Middle; that is to say, unlike neo-Latin, it was once a living language. Weisberg (Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Cincinnati) transliterates, translates, and comments on 173 texts acquired by the Institute over many years. He also provides hand copies or photographs of casts for each tablet, and drawings and descriptions for the seal impressions. Most of the texts are from the Eanna temple archive in Uruk; others from Nippur, Babylon, and Larsa. They date from the beginning of the seventh to the last quarter of the fourth century BC, and include legal, administrative, and epistolary material plus fragments of a commentary, a lexical tablet, and a religious text or commentary.
