Opening chapters review the overall picture, discuss epidemiology and transmission dynamics, and describe emerging issues in prevention. Case studies then discuss HIV/AIDS epidemiology and national responses for Cambodia, China, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the countries of Southeast Asia. The remaining papers examine special issues, including interventions with sex workers, issues for intravenous drug users, the prevalence of HIV among men who have sex with men and transgender populations, safe blood programs in Southeast Asia, mother-to-child transmission, drug resistance, current guidelines for clinical management, priority areas for research, enhancing access to antiretroviral drugs, vaccine development, and the implication and feasibility of commercial health insurance for people living with HIV in India.
