商品簡介

This two-volume set is part of a set of nine volumes covering child development and mental health issues in global cultures. The books examine social and public polices that impede or enhance positive mental health outcomes for children, and are designed to be accessible to the educated public, parents, policy makers, and counseling and psychology professionals. Volume 1 of the two-volume set contains 10 chapters addressing development and context. Some specific topics explored include boys transitioning off the streets in Bolivia, the mental health of children orphaned by AIDS, a developing world perspective on postnatal depression, and the roots of borderline personality disorder in infancy. Children of parents with substance abuse and the psychological and developmental impact of the refugee experience are some other subjects covered. Volume 2 offers 10 chapters on prevention and treatment. Subjects covered include infant mental health and feeding disorders from a pediatric perspective, the child's experience of traditional adoption practices in New Caledonia, and early parenting interventions to promote infant mental health. The book's contributors come from the fields of counseling, social policy, child and family psychology, developmental psychology, and psychiatry. Fitzgerald teaches psychology at Michigan State University. Annotation c2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
