Semantics ─ An International Handbook of Natural Language Meaning

Intended as a detailed yet accessible reference for students and researchers in semantics and overlapping disciplines such as psychology and philosophy, this is the second volume of a three-volume set. It picks up where the first left off, beginning with chapter 9, on noun phrase semantics. Following are chapters on verb phrase semantics; semantics of adjectives and adverb(ial)s; intensional contexts; scope, negation, and conjunction; sentence types; and information and discourse structure. Within each of these subjects are numbered subtopics (40 through 76), treated by contributors. Each topic is addressed in a detailed presentation incorporating key issues: analysis of semantic categories, history of research, theories and theoretical frameworks, methodology, and relationships with related fields.
