Hill has some 30 years of experience in second language acquisition and special education; Bjork has extensive experience as a professional developer in schoolwide change, as a bilingual and ESL classroom teacher, and as a teacher educator. Both are consultants for McREL (Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning), a Denver-based nonprofit organization created to help educators bridge the gap between research and practice. Their participant's workbook is based on recommendations from the 2006 book by Hill and K. M. Flynn, Classroom Instruction That Works with English Language Learners. It is designed for teachers taking part in a two-day professional development workshop where the facilitator and participants have all read the 2006 book prior to the training. Includes are in-depth discussions and practical applications of a variety of classroom strategies from the 2006 text. A workshop facilitator's guide is also available. No subject index.
