商品簡介

Repatriation of artifacts from museums back into Native American communities is a restorative, healing process. Unfortunately, it is also dangerous, because many of the materials were treated by museums with pesticides to prevent insect and rodent infestation. As a result, tribal cultural practitioners, museum workers, and whole communities may have been unknowingly exposed to toxins. Odegaard (anthropology, U. of Arizona), Sadongei (assistant curator, U. of Arizona) and their contributors describe the problem in terms of cultural use and hazards to safety, identify the pesticides used, describe how to build an action team, and show how to assess contamination through analytic tests. They also give guidelines for handling contaminated materials and using personal protection equipment, give resources on professionals and consultants, safety equipment, health and safety information and supplies, Material Safety Data Sheets, and pesticide information web sites.
