商品簡介
The title of this work pays homage to Wassily Kandinsky's On the Spiritual in Art , which called for a new art that is sensitive to the invisible universe of spirituality. His call was echoed again and again in the proceeding years by numerous artists, but has been insufficiently acknowledged, according to this work. The author surveys the artistic production of such figures as Mondrian, Klee, Picasso, Duchamp, Matisse, and Brancusi and links them to the spiritual ideas that aided in their conception. The text includes 121 black and white illustrations. This is a paperbound reprint of a work first published in 1988 as An Art of Our Own: The Spiritual in Twentieth-Century Art .
