商品簡介

Editors Noguera (New York University), Hurtado (UC-Santa Barbara), and Fergus (New York University) unite US contributors in Chicano studies, psychology, sociology, education, and health in this exploration of obstacles facing Latino males. The first part of the book presents a demographic snapshot of Latino men's education, employment, and incarceration patterns from 2000-2009. Part 2 examines factors related to the construction of masculinity, masculinity as portrayed in Latino children's literature and media, and undocumented Latino youths' struggles to access higher education. The section on race, gender, and skin color looks at friendships among Latino adolescent boys and the role of skin color in constructing ethnic identification. The book's final section investigates environmental factors related to Latino male violence in the US. A final chapter proposes policy recommendations and future directions for research.
