The Best of History Web Sites

Based on a web portal he created on the same topic, this is a list of about 1,000 of the best history websites, with descriptions (longer than those on the portal), rated and categorized according to content. Chapters are organized by common historical concepts and subtopics, from prehistory to the twentieth century, as well as American history, and art and oral history. Particular focus is on educational and news organizations such as the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Institution, the Public Broadcasting Service, the British Broadcasting Corporation, and the Center for History and New Media. Every chapter incorporates sites with international perspectives. Lists of teacher-oriented resources such as lesson plans, games and activities, tests and quizzes, subject gateways, and teacher guides are included, with grade-level recommendations (not included on the web portal). Introductory chapters outline how to locate and evaluate websites and integrate them into the classroom. The book is intended for librarians, educators, and students.
