The Native American in Short Fiction in the Saturday Evening Post

A narrowed and deepened offshoot of Beidler and Mairon F. Egg's The Native American in the Saturday Evening Post (2000), limited to short fiction, about 30 pages or less, and adding detailed summaries of the stories. None of the 265 stories, of course, was written by Native Americans, and while most suggest that a gruesome race war was the only viable resolution to the differences between Europeans and Indians, many others provide examples of inter-racial friendships that flourish in spite of and because of the differences. Peter Beidler is the Lucy G. Moses distinguished Professor of English at Lehigh University, where he has taught British and American Literature for three decades. He is the recipient of two national teaching awards and has published widely in many topics, including Native American writers. Harry J. Brown is completing his doctoral degree in early American literature at Lehigh University. Marion F. Egge has taught freshman English for Lehigh University, music history for Moravian College, as well as composition and introduction to literature for Bucks County (Pa.) Community College. She currently is editor of the Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine and owns a desktop publishing business.
