Language Planning and Policy: Issues in Language Planning and Literacy

In general, literacy planning has two main aspects: language learning as a part of a standard education or language acquisition. The field is rich with questions, including those about the languages to be supported and the means of supporting them, the reasons for choosing certain languages to support, and preservation of certain languages. This collection of articles describes current policies, concepts and applications in the field, including the implications of language planning to societies, the role of power in literacy planning, national and local early literacy policies, reshaping human lives through literacy planning, literacy and education policies in bidialectical settings, and applications and their consequences in Kenya, Canada, Singapore, China, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, the Pacific, and pidgin and creole languages.
