Holocaust Literature

In this two-volume work, Roth (Claremont McKenna College) presents some 100 entries discussing key works within the literature on the Holocaust. The works reviewed include fictional dramas, novels, novellas, nonfictions, poems, and short fictions together with nonfiction histories, biographies, memoirs, diaries, and survivor testimonies, as well as works of religion, philosophy, and ethics. Each entry provides basic publishing information and lists of principal characters (fiction) or personages (nonfiction) prior to three to five pages of discussion of the work in question. These discussions range from basic summary descriptions to somewhat more analytical examinations. The second volume contains a number of appendixes, including a general bibliography, a list of 200 additional important works about the Holocaust, a chronology, a list of the major concentration camps, and a list of Web resources (the chronology and the list of concentration camps are also presented in the first volume).
