Melanocortins: Multiple Actions and Therapeutic Potential

This book represents the joint effort of an international group of scientists who are at the forefront of research in the field. The volume spans information on chemistry, pharmacology, distribution, and therapeutic potential of melanocortins. A recurrent theme of this volume is the role played by distinct melanocortin receptors in mediating melanocortin effects. Although these receptors have been identified and well-characterized, information in the book indicates that definite categorization of their expression and function in different conditions still needs major work.

ANNA CATA NIA, MD, PhD is a director of Center for Preclinical Investigation at Fondazione Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, Mangiagalli e Regina Elena, Milano, Italy. She received her degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan and postdoctoral degree in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Genoa,Italy. For over a decade she has been visiting scientist at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Texas.During the past 20 years, her research activity has been focused on molecular biology and preclinical testing of melanocortins.
