Ethnic Studies Research: Approaches and Perspectives

Although the disciplines of anthropology and sociology have a traditional claim on ethnic studies, but academics have also been developing disciplines and departments that study one ethnic group or another, or to study ethnicity itself. This collection of 19 articles seeks to record, explain and analyze efforts to create ethic studies functions and organizations, their methods in conducting research, their influence in breaking color lines, their pedagogical approach, and their effect on community practice. Topics include the relationship between ethnic and world study, research by the scions of the empire, ethnic epistemology in Latino qualitative studies, method in Black/African studies, race and sexuality in ethnology, interdisciplinary work, methods of reading ethnic literatures, literary and visual arts in Chicano/a studies, multiple perspectives in research, participatory research, community research, experiences and methods for teaching ethnic studies, and the results of community collaboration and activism.
