商品簡介
M. Goodman, D. Goodman, and Redcliff all in geography at King's College, London, define space as any location, including the human body, and consumption as everything from eating and drinking to building homes and hotels. They are concerned with making connections between spaces of production and consumption. After three chapters on theory, the remainder of the articles look at concrete examples. The creation of places for tourist consumption such as Mexican resorts and boutique hotels is one end of the spectrum. At the other end is the disparity between places of production, such as massive poultry farms, and unsafe factories in Third-World countries and the malls and superstores in which products are sold. One benign example is the growing popularity of Chilean wines in Britain. Most of the articles look at the need for understanding to promote ethical consumption. The final chapter considers the seemingly endless space of the internet as a mixed blessing for consumers of information. Annotation c2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
