One day Arthur Friedland piles his three sons into the car and drives them to see the Great Lindemann, Master of Hypnosis. DANIEL KEHLMANN was born in Munich in 1975 and now divides his time between Berlin and New York. He is the recipient of numerous prizes, including the Candide Prize, the Literary Prize of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, the Doderer Prize, the Kliest Prize, the Welt Literature Prize, and the Thomas Mann Prize. His novel Measuring the World was translated into more than forty languages and is one of the biggest successes in postwar German literature.
