Industrial Robots
According to the ISO definition, industrial robots are automatically controlled, reprogrammable,multipurpose manipulator in three or more axes.They are widely used in the fields of welding, painting, assembly, packaging, product inspection and testing with the edge of high endurance, speed and precision.
All industrial robots are either servo or non-servo controlled.Servo robots are controlled through the use of sensors that continually monitor the robot s axes and associated components for position and velocity.This feedback is compared to pre-taught information which has been programmed and stored in the robots memory.Non-servo robots do not have the feedback capability, and their axes are controlled through a system of mechanical stops and limit switches.
Energy provided includes pneumatic,hydraulic,and electrical power.The robots drives are usually mechanical combinations powered by these types of energy, and the selection is usually based on application requirements.Electrical_ly powered robots are the most prevalent in industry.Either AC or DC electrical power is used to supply energy to electromechanical motor-driven actuating mechanisms and their respective control systems.Motion control is much better,and in an emergency an electrically powered robot can be stopped or powered down more safely and faster than those with either pneumatic or hydraulic power.
As for general robotics, the most common types are robotic arms,which are programmed to carry out repetitive actions faitltully and accurately without human intervention.The direction,acceleration,velocity, deceleration,and distance of a series of coordinated motions are specified by programming.In this way,they are much more flexible as to the orientation of the object or even the task which the robot may even need to identify.They often have machine vision sub-systems as "eyes" linked to powerful computers or controllers.Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly important for industrial robots.
