This manual presents an evidence-based coaching model for helping students of all ages struggling academically due to deficits in executive skills like time and task management, planning, organization, and impulse control. The authors outline the model's theoretical and research background and provide an overview of executive skills in a developmental context and how they emerge throughout childhood and adolescence. They discuss the model's efficacy and implementation, how to teach executive skills, and how to collect data to monitor progress. Also discussed are advanced techniques including communication skills. They then address setting up a school-based program, and special applications, such as a classwide peer coaching program, improving social skills, and helping students develop self-determination. Dawson, a psychologist, and Guare, a neuropsychologist and behavior analyst, both work at a center for learning and attention disorders and co-wrote the precursor to the manual, Coaching the ADHD Student. 作者簡介
Peg Dawson, EdD, is a staff psychologist at the Center for Learning and Attention Disorders at Seacoast Mental Health Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where she specializes in the assessment of children and adults with learning and attention disorders. She is a past president of the New Hampshire Association of School Psychologists, the National Association of School Psychologists, and the International School Psychology Association. Dr. Dawson is a recipient of the National Association of School Psychologists' Lifetime Achievement Award.
Richard Guare, PhD, a neuropsychologist and board-certified behavior analyst, is Director of the Center for Learning and Attention Disorders at Seacoast Mental Health Center. He serves as a consultant to schools and agencies in programs for autism, learning and behavior disorders, and acquired brain injuries. Dr. Guare has presented and published research and clinical work involving attention, executive skills, and neurological disorders.
