Bonded warehouse
Some general merchandise or special commodity warehouses are known as bonded warehouses. Goods such as imported tobacco and alcoholic beverages are stored in this type of warehouse, although the government retains control of the goods until they are distributed to the market place. The advantage of the bonded warehouse is that the import duties need not be paid until the merchandise is sold, so that the importer has the funds on hand to pay these fees.
Bulk storage warehouse
Bulk storage warehouses provide tank storage of liquids and open or sheltered storage of dry products such as coal, sand, and chemicals.
Private warehouse
Private warehouse is owned and operated by the company whose goods are stored in the building. The major advantage is that the facility can be custom designed to meet the organizations' needs. Owning the facility also permits management total control over the warehousing function and its integration into the overall logistics system. There is also the possibility that the facility can be utilized to house other corporate functions such as a sales office or a retail outlet. Finally, a company warehouse does convey a commitment to the marketplace that is reassuring to customers.
Unfortunately these benefits come at a high cost, in terms of both the initial invest- ment required to build the facility and the long-term obligations associated with maintaining it. If demand increases or decreases, the firm may be left with a building that it cannot use and is unable to sell because it was customer designed to support specific products.
What are the costs of running a warehouse？
Warehouse running costs vary widely depending on the nature of their operations. The main costs are as follows:
1. Staffing;
2. Building services, maintenance and facilities management;
3. Warehouse equipment, including maintenance of materials handling equipment （MHE） and of vehicles.
