1844年大清帝國簽訂《中法黃埔條約》,明確規定准許傳教與設立教堂自由,從此解除了中國的百年教禁,而法國也取代葡萄牙獲得「在華保教權」(Protectorate of Missions);1911年辛亥革命、大清覆亡、民國繼起,英美法等列強的壓力,讓國民政府對各國採取雨露均霑的開放政策,而一紙「在華保教權」,暗地裡掀起了法國與羅馬梵諦岡教廷之間在中國的諜對諜。1919年北平掀起的五四運動成為「反對帝國主義的宗教文化侵略」,讓遠在羅馬的主教擔憂不已,為了拉攏中國教民的心,梵蒂岡教宗本篤十五世頒布《夫至大通諭》(Maximum illud),訂定中國宣教應當設身處地融入在地民情,爾後於1922年派出首任宗座駐華代表剛恆毅,領總主教銜抵達北平駐節中國,順利建立中國宣教的本土化方針。
 
剛恆毅在北平期間邂逅了輔大美術系陳緣督畫師,掀起了中國藝術史上革命的新樂章,為中國藝術添加了西方文化的《聖經》本體。在兩位中外藝術大師集合美學、宗教、繪畫與考古等元素下,以中式水墨筆觸結合聖經故事的《我主聖傳圖》終於誕生。

《Book Insight》漢世紀域外漢學計畫:透過梵諦岡蒐藏的中國畫師陳緣督畫冊中第20幅《最後的晚餐》,根據歷史記錄與聖經故事,推敲陳緣督畫師在30年代繪製此畫之時恐尚未有機會親眼目睹15世紀由達文西在米蘭修道院所繪製的《最後的晚餐》(繪製時間1495年~1497年)。第二次世界大戰期間,米蘭遭受轟炸,為保護畫作,軍方與人民以沙包、木板將整面牆做了嚴密的保護,直到近年才重新公開此畫。有趣的是,除了中、西《最後的晚餐》版本對於十二門徒的詮釋方式可以對照外(例如領著錢袋出賣耶穌的猶大),中畫以燈籠、明月取代西畫耶穌後方的光源,擺設家具、服裝儀容等,都有各自表現的典雅濃厚的韻味。耶穌被釘十字架之前,在最後晚餐設立了聖餐禮;聖餐禮的重要性,在於紀念與期待未來神國的實現。《最後的晚餐》,可知中西方對耶穌與門徒的約定,總是世人對此的盼望。對於喜愛研究宗教藝術史的讀者,本書非常值得推薦典藏。

This English title is an Art Collection made by the Chinese Artist Yuan-Du Chen in Peking in (Beijing China) 1930s with 24 Chinese Paintings associated with 24 Bible Stories in both English and Chinese.

In 1844, The Qing Dynasty China signed the Sino-French Treaty of Whampoa, it clearly defined to allow missionary freedom with the establishment of the church free which resolved the ban. Hence, France replaced Portugal and became to control "Protectorate of missions" in China.

In 1922, Pope Pius XI sent Celso Costantini as Apostolic Resident Representative in China, which would concrete implementation of "Maximum illud" in the localization of the spirit and provided favorable conditions for the commencement of the localization of the Chinese Christian. Later this year, Celso Benigno Luigi Cardinal Costantini, became the first Apostolic Delegate to China designated by Vatican Rome on August 12. Celso Costantini bishop clearly understood that: "It is not feasible to provide missionary service with no cultural cultivation toward this ancient country which has good ethical traditions for thousands of years." He had been indulged in Chinese Cultures since 1922 and he loved to look around the exhibition in Peking, to understand their needs, learning art, and he met the Chinese artist Yuan-Du Chen who was baptized by him in Peking (Beijing China) as Luke Chen, a professor at Fine Art School of Fu Jen Catholic University in Peking (Beijing China).

Yuan-Du Chen encouraged students to highlight their personal characters and play their artistic genius creatively and he influenced many students go into religious creation and become Christians. His greate contribution to Chinese Paintings was commended by Bishop Celso Costantini as follows: "Chinese Paintings can result in wonderful performance by Strokes and delicate Chinese Skill, class performance without the anti-holy church, genetic, and also the same in real terms, only in the form of was inspired by the enthusiasm of Christianity in China to adapt to the psychology of Chinese, naturally extremely reasonable on showing the characteristics of Chinese art and its artistic unique compact, can be the form of unity and essence."

作者簡介

薛麗珍(Nonny Hsueh)

總工程師,擁有臺美資訊管理與電腦科學碩士學位,生於臺北東區,自小喜愛中華文化,學生時期因主編政治大學資訊管理系專刊而受到臺灣微軟領導 階層青睞,旋而投入微軟電子書苑(Microsoft Press)數位出版資訊系統開發計畫;在美國深造與工作期間,因感海外華人不易便捷取得中文圖書以及部分優質作品竟有絕版之惑,因而興起打造永續經營的 華文電子書數位出版理念。因工作所需經常往來美國、中國、臺港與東南亞等地,閒暇之餘喜愛與友交流撰寫電子書軟體與手機應用app,是三十世代海外華人圈 中數位出版與資訊界的知識分子代表,持續關切與協助大中華區軟體開發人才之創業條件與科研教育。

Yuan-Du Chen, his original name was Xun Chen, also know as the Chinese Artist Luke Chen, born in March 1902 and died in December 1967. He was the rofessor of National Peking Arts College, the Beijing Academy of Fine Arts, Fine Arts Department of Fu Jen Catholic University, lecturer of Beijing Art Teachers College at the Central Academy of Arts, professor of Chinese Artists Association.
 
Yuan-Du Chen was elected as Deputy Chairman of the Modern Painting Association and Executive Director of the Chinese Painting Research Commission. Before the reorganization of Department of Fine Arts in Fu Jen Catholic University in 1928, Yuan-Du Chen had been teaching students in Grade one, two and three particularly on Portraits Art. First grade, he taught about the Chronicles Painting Skills of the factions and tend to pay more attention to practice the use of pen and ink in order to understand the gist. Second grade, he taught how to use sophomore copying figures on masterpieces vividly. Third grade, he encouraged students to highlight their personal characters and play their artistic genius creatively. After the organization of Fine Art Department in Fu Jen Catholic University in Peking, Chen began to teach Art for third and fourth grade students and received a great achievement.

About one of the contributors of Bible: Luke is very concerned about Humility, the spirit of self-dedication. Being a doctor, Luke can achieve another secular career, but he chose to use his scientific skills to promote the early Christian Missionary. Luke has kept detailed records of the evangelistic message Jesus in the Bible in view of historic truth and records.
