餓鬼 Hungry Ghost

This pocket-sized paperback is one of the twenty-two titles published for 2015 Hong Kong International Poetry Nights. The theme of IPHHK2015 is “Poetry and Conflict”. 21 international poets from 18 different places are invited to participate in recitations, symposia and sharing sessions of the Poetry Nights. A recitation focusing on 10 local Hong Kong poets, “Hong Kong Cantonese Poetry Night” is included. This collection seeks to make accessible the best of contemporary international poetry with outstanding translations.

安妮‧華曼，集詩人、表演家、教授、編輯、文化活動家於一身，曾與艾倫‧金斯堡在科羅拉多州納羅帕大學一起創立傑克．凱魯亞克解體詩藝學院。華曼現為納羅帕大學詩學榮譽教授，擔任該校夏季寫作課程的藝術主任。金斯堡常常把華曼稱為「心靈上的妻子」。她曾出版超過40本詩集，包括精微經典系列詩集《快嘴女人》(1974)、《婚姻：審判》(2000)、《海牛╱人性》(2009)等。華曼憑藉《曖葦絲三部曲：隱蔽機制的顏色》贏得「2012美國筆會詩歌獎」，2013-2014年獲得「古根漢獎金」，現為美國詩人學院的主席。《出版人週報》譽華曼為「反文化巨人」。

Anne Waldman is a poet, performer, professor, editor and cultural activist. Allen Ginsberg has often referred to Waldman as his “spiritual wife.” She is the author of over 40 books of poetry, including the mini-classic Fast Speaking Woman (City Lights, 1974), Marriage: A Sentence (Penguin Poets, 2000), the book-length hybrid Manatee/Humanity (Penguin Poets, 2009), and the feminist epic The Iovis Trilogy: Colors in the Mechanism of Concealment (Coffee House, 2011) which is the winner of the 2012 PEN Center USA Award for Poetry. Waldman is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship (2013–14) and a Chancellor of The Academy of American Poets.

餓鬼是佛教輪迴中的六大剎境之一，餓鬼道是―個有實際的飢餓和

無法滿足的心理飢餓的地方。對我來説，它象徵著對化石燃料永無

止境的需求，以及對我們的星球的破壞。

 

餓鬼，一種在我們剎境之間的形態

性感的鬼，一個表演者，惡魔，牛虻，玩家

 

從來沒有足夠感覺足夠取得足夠，從來沒有足夠取得足夠感覺足夠

 

碳鬼！在煤上跳舞

 

一種心態，為了他想或她想而不滿意，不安心，

Hungry Ghost is one of the six realms in the Buddhist Wheel of life, a place

with literal hunger and also insatiable psychological hunger. It symbolizes for

me the bottomless appetite for fossil fuel and the destruction of our planet.

 

Hungry ghost, a morphology all by itself between our realms

 

Hungry ghost: a restless consciousness eats the world

 

Sexy ghost, a performer, a demon, a gadfly, a fun-hog

 

To never have enough be enough get enough to never have enough get

enough be enough

 

Carbon ghost! Dancing on coals

 

In a state of mind, unsatisfied, unsettled over what he thinks or she thinks,

what they think what he wants she wants what they want

 

What the "I" thinks & wants: hieroglyph for the hungry ghost!

 

Jostled by waves, the real kind, that pull you under

Jostled by fracking, earthquake under your feet

And the earth says don’t like it don’t do it don’t like it hydraulic fracturing
