商品簡介
The 1958 international competition for Toronto's new city hall was the catalyst for what would become one of the most iconic modernist buildings of its day, igniting a new era in Canadian architecture. While the outcome of the competition is well known - Finnish-born architect Viljo Revell's complex opened to public acclaim in 1965 - what is lesser known to specialists and to the general public is the amazing variety of projects that were submitted from around the world. Weaving a tale that is equal parts civic, cultural, and architectural history, architect George Kapelos and historian Christopher Armstrong bring their insights to bear on a chapter of modern architecture whose impact went far beyond Toronto and Canada. Accompanied by a selection of 50 official entries each illustrated with original drawings and models, as well as a complete listing of the more than 500 participating architects and architectural firms.
