商品簡介
Throughout Taiwan's modern history, the fight against the rulers began in the 1920s and ended in 1947, because of the 228 Incident. This period depicts how our people were in search of democracy and human rights. Lead by intellectuals such as Lin Xian-tang and Jiang Wei-shui, the Petition of the Establishment of Taiwan Council and the Taiwanese Cultural Association introduced democracy and human rights through cultural enlightenment. They tried to establish a Taiwanese Council in hopes of getting a complete local independence. Because of the 228 Incident in 1947, doors were opened to local independence and democratic values. That is why the Committee to Settle the Monopoly Bureau Incident listed 42 Demands, requesting the enactment of Provincial Autonomy Law, so as to fulfill the dream written in the Fundamentals of National Reconstruction by Sun Yat-sen. However, Chen Yi, the Chief Executive of Taiwan at the time, regarded this as rebellious and requested Chiang Kai-shek, chairman of the Nationalist Government, to execute many political elites as well as innocent civilians. Taiwan has since been in terror. It was not until 1987 when the 228 Peace Day Association demanded to redress injustice, did Taiwan started to embrace a future of freedom and democracy, putting the dark days behind us.
