The Tudor revival of government and administration in Ireland dramatically increased the quantity of written sources concerning Ireland. This book attempts to survey this documentary material. It analyses of the written sources for early modern Irish history for the period 1534-1641. It discusses the different types of sources available and also provides descriptions of transcripts, copies and summaries of manuscript material which has been destroyed. This is very valuable, because much of the original documentation for this period was destroyed when the Public Record Office in Dublin was burnt, at the beginning of the civil war in 1922. The final chapter in the book includes an assessment of the historiography of early modern Irish history. In the light of the need for historians to understand the administrative machinery which produced the documents they use, the book also includes an account of the civil and ecclesiastical administration of early modern Ireland.

In this 2007 book, Kate Chedgzoy explores the ways in which women writers of the early modern British Atlantic world imagined, visited, created and haunted textual sites of memory. Asking how women's writing from all parts of the British Isles and Britain's Atlantic colonies employed the resources of memory to make sense of the changes that were refashioning that world, the book suggests that memory is itself the textual site where the domestic echoes of national crisis can most insistently be heard. In this 1963 volume, Mr Hanson's aim was to record from the principal libraries of Great Britain and Ireland all new works on economic affairs published in the first half of the eighteenth century. The entries are arranged chronologically by years of publication, and the entries for each year are subdivided. A single entry comprises author's name, title, place of publication, date, size, and location. The titles are transcribed fairly fully to avoid ambiguity or confusion. First editions only are given full entries; subsequent editions or reissues are recorded in footnotes. Altogether there are little over 6500 main entries. The comprehensive indexes are an important feature of the book. An index of titles brings the complete material into alphabetical order; and a general index of authors and subjects ensures that the book can be used selectively.

The Irish Revolution was a pivotal moment of transition for Ireland, the United Kingdom, and British Empire. First published in 1931, this book contains the second volume of Sir William Ridgeway's history of the culture and practises of the early Greeks. Ridgeway uses a number of ancient sources from literature and archaeological findings to demonstrate various Greek social and cultural mores arose, such as traditions surrounding kinship, homicide and marriage. Thomas Wentworth landed in Ireland in 1633 - almost 100 years after Henry VIII had begun his break with Rome. The majority of the people were still Catholic. William Laud had just been elevated to Canterbury. A Yorkshire cleric, John Bramhall, followed the new viceroy and became, in less than one year, Bishop of Derry. This 2007 study, which is centred on Bramhall, examines how these three men embarked on a policy for the established Church which represented not only a break with a century of reforming tradition but which also sought to make the tiny Irish Church a model for the other Stuart kingdoms. Dr McCafferty shows how accompanying canonical changes were explicitly implemented for notice and eventual adoption in England and Scotland. However within eight years the experiment was blown apart and reconstruction denounced as subversive. Wentworth, Laud and Bramhall faced consequent disgrace, trial, death or exile.
