The New Revised Standard Version is a thorough revision of the Revised Standard Version of 1952, itself a revision of the 1611 King James Version. Its aim is to be 'as literal as possible, as free as necessary'. Widely used in academic circles as well as churches, the NRSV takes full advantage of recent scholarship. This edition contains the Apocrypha, or Deuterocanonical Books in a convenient text format with translation footnotes. The Apocrypha are documents written around the same time as the books of the Old and New Testaments, but not accepted as canonical. They are essential background reading for anyone studying the Bible, particularly the inter-testamental period.
Edited by David Norton, this important scholarly edition presents a revised KJV text based on a thorough evaluation of textual variants in current renderings as well as the extant notes of the 1611 Translators. The text itself is presented in paragraph form, with marginal notes, and adopts modern conventions of spelling and punctuation to make it easy to read and use. The New Cambridge Paragraph Bible was originally published in 2005 in a large format and, like the original King James Bible and successive editions until the nineteenth century, included the Apocrypha. As it has become known in the marketplace, a demand has become apparent for this Bible in a smaller, more manageable format. Its is therefore now being issued in Personal Size editions, either with or without the Apocrypha. This particular Bible includes the Apocrypha and comes in hardcover.
The NRSV Popular Text Edition is an entirely new setting using the New Revised Standard Version Anglicized Edition, the Bible translation recommended for use in the Church of England and other churches. The Anglicized Edition uses British spellings and punctuation. This Bible includes the Apocrypha. It features clear, easy-to-read print, well laid out with generous page margins and space between the columns. The text is helpfully broken up with bold section headings, and running heads show chapter and verse for easy navigation. The text is printed on gilt-edged paper and there is a presentation page and ribbon marker. The Bible is bound in black French Morocco leather, and comes in a presentation box. It would make an excellent gift for Christmas, birthdays or other special occasions.
