A Crimson Season

Emma Cooper is starting her freshman year at North Carolina State University with the expectations of independence from her overbearing mother, distance from her increasingly abusive boyfriend, and creating memories to last a lifetime while she diligently works her way to medical school. But her plans are derailed when she meets Kai Moretti, the lead singer of A Crimson Season, a punk rock band on the cusp of fame.

Kai has never been in a relationship, convinced it only brings out the worst in people. Love? What a joke. Sex, drugs, rock and roll - that's Kai's mantra. His focus is solely on the band and getting a record deal. Until her.

As their worlds collide, everything changes. From trials and tribulations with their families to drama with their friends, the chemistry between Kai and Emma burns bright. But when the band actually makes it big, it comes with a price. A price Emma's not sure she's willing to pay.

Prologue:

"'Would I do it all again?' I get asked this question all the time because of the numerous rumors that have plagued my family. I've seen the ugliest side of fame, how it changes people, and how it can completely destroy lives. As I stand here in front of all of you, and this monitor that's broadcasting to the world, I will repeat my answer for what seems like the millionth time. Of course, I would do it all again. I would happily withstand the pain, embarrassment, fear, and heartache in order to have even one day of the only love that ever truly mattered. It was all worth it."

I pause to look out at the crowd as they applaud, smiling at their encouragement, and I'm momentarily taken back in time. I hear the loud music blaring from speakers, drums and electric guitar ringing in my ears. Faceless people, alcohol, and a myriad of drugs surround me. Clouds of smoke billow around the dark room, creating suffocating walls. But all I can see is the love of my life standing in front of me and I'm completely consumed by that smile and those eyes. Desperate for the touch of that hand and the spark of those lips. All I want is to lose myself in my person like I have so many times before.

But I won't ever get to experience any of it again. The memories sting my senses as I'm brought back to the present. I take a deep, calming breath to continue my speech. "I'd like to take the opportunity to finally set the record straight. Let me start from the beginning..."
