The Ties That Burn

Skylar Hood's life was characterized by dysfunction, disappointment, and tragedy from the start. Realizing that there was no love to be found on the streets, she learned quickly how to fend for herself in order to survive. It was within the hustle and rollercoaster of her everyday life that the desire for more than Long Beach had to offer emerged.

Taken in by her aunt and her saintly uncle, Randy, after abandonment by her mother, Skylar was launched into a world of love and entertainment that quickly began to shape her worldview. Surrounded by cousins who became like brothers and sisters to her, she reached toward a life beyond the one she knew--one that she would need to make happen all on her own.

From failed relationships, to hopeful, new ones, to familiar losses, every joy that comes her way is punctuated by pain, requiring her to once again find the will to survive. Just when she thinks she's done taking trips to hell and back and that there is finally a light at the end of the tunnel, the devil creeps up to prove that he isn't finished with her yet.

These never ending tribulations bring her face-to-face with the most important life questions: what is the method to this madness called life? Would she get her happily ever after? If she did, how much more of that madness could she take in order to get there?

Tasha L. Hough "Poindexter" was born in 1970 in Long Beach, California. Growing up, she was determined to be someone special, to help others, to make a difference.

Taken from her mom at five-years-old, she was raised by her great uncle then her aunt. Working hard since the age of fifteen, her determination helped her escape the life of drugs, alcohol, and gang violence that characterized her upbringing.

Instead of allowing the situation she was born to dictate her future, Tasha's vivid imagination paired with her experiences served as a catalyst for her writing which she uses to impart wisdom and encouragement to her others.

Thanks to the support of her loving husband and wonderful children, Tasha has traveled throughout the world instructing clients on hair augmentation and the art of treating medical hair loss. She and her husband are the owners of two "Flawless Hair & Beauty Bar" locations, both of which are wholly community oriented through their method, "Flawless Luxury Hair Care."

"The Ties That Burn" is a story that consists of Tasha's true-life experiences mixed with a little imagination and explores the unchangeable nature of the past and how to cope with everything life throws one's way. Her hope is that this story of faith in God's plan will capture and intrigue her audience. One step into the world of her main character, Skylar, brings alive a realm of possibilities and makes the reader wonder what will come next.
