商品簡介
Your hiking and backpacking guide to the PCT
In Oregon and Washington, the Pacific Crest Trail winds past rivers, peaks, forests, meadows, fascinating geological formations, and other natural wonders. Let our PCT gurus—Jordan Summers, Jeffrey P. Schaffer, and Andy Selters—help you with everything you need to know about this section of the 2,650-mile trail, which traverses 24 national forests, 37 wilderness areas, and 7 national parks. In Pacific Crest Trail: Oregon & Washington, you’ll meet up with the PCT at the California border and hike, climb, descend, and switchback your way to the edge of Canada. Written by accomplished hikers who have each logged over 5,000 trail miles, this book helps you locate the trail and side trips, find water sources, and access resupply routes. Featuring a complete map of the route—in the form of 149 topographic strip maps—Pacific Crest Trail: Oregon & Washington provides rich descriptions of the trail, tips on planning your hike, and information on the region’s natural history, geology, and ecology. You’ll also get important details on camping, permits, and the best seasons to go. Plan a day hike, a weekend trip, or an ambitious thru-hike. Let’s get going. The trail awaits!
作者簡介
Jordan Summers has had more fun sleeping on rock, snow, and dirt than any one person should be allowed. From 2007 until 2009, Jordan hiked approximately 1,300 miles to research and write Five-Star Trails: Lake Tahoe, 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: Sacramento, and Easy Hikes Close to Home: Sacramento. In 2009, Jordan solo-hiked 1,100 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the California-Mexico border to Echo Lake Dam before an injury brought his hike to a close. But only a couple of years passed, and more books completed, before Jordan resumed his hike in 2012 and walked into Manning Provincial Park. In 2015 and 2016, Jordan hiked the John Muir Trail for another second edition, Day & Section Hikes: John Muir Trail, with Kathleen Dodge-Doherty, and he edited the Desolation Wilderness map. In 2016, Jordan hiked the PCT from Cottonwood Meadow (south of Mount Whitney) to Wapanitia Pass (south of Mount Hood) before weather changed his plans for hiking through Washington.
Jordan is an alumnus of the National Outdoor Leadership School’s Wilderness Outdoor Educator program, a Leave No Trace Trainer, and a NOLS-Wilderness Medicine Institute certified Wilderness First Responder. All of this helps him to pursue his passion: helping hikers of all abilities to get out there, have a great time, leave no trace, and come home safely. Jordan lives in the Sacramento suburb of Elk Grove, California. He is active as a volunteer for the Tahoe Rim Trail Association and the Pacific Crest Trail Association.
