Three elderly men were gunned down at a local diner and it seems half of Acker’s Gap was there to witness the act. Still, it happened so fast that no one could get a good look at the shooter. Was this a random attack? Or were Dean Streeter, Shorty McClurg, and Lee Rader the intended targets?

One of the witnesses to the brutal incident was Carla Elkins, teenaged daughter of Bell Elkins, the prosecuting attorney for Raythune County. Though she was shocked by what she saw, after a few days Carla begins to recover enough to believe that she might be uniquely placed to help her mother lead the investigation. Doing so would be one way to repair their fragile, damaged relationship. But what if Carla ends up doing more harm than good—for herself, Bell, and a torn-apart town in desperate need of justice. . .while a killer remains on the loose?
