Family Resilience and Chronic Illness ― Interdisciplinary and Translational Perspectives

This volume delves into the issues facing families who deal with chronic illness. A result of the Conference on Family Resilience at Oklahoma State University, this book focuses on working with or doing research about families dealing with chronic illness. The volume covers the entire lifespan from infancy to older age and provides practical applications for service providers. It also offers a interdisciplinary perspective.

Ginger Welch, Ph.D., is a clinical associate professor, HDFS at Oklahoma State University. Her research interests include both child clinical issues such as child maltreatment fatalities, child neglect, and infant assessment, as well as pediatric psychology issues including prematurity and Sickle Cell disease. Dr. Welch also runs a private practice. Amanda Harrist, Ph.D., is Associate Director for Education and Translation at the Center for Family Resilience and Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Science at Oklahoma State University. Her research focuses around the theme of understanding psychosocial risk and protective processes in children’s social contexts, particularly the home and classroom settings. She has been Principle Investigator for the Families & Schools for Health Project, a longitudinal interdisciplinary study of the psychosocial risk factors in child obesity that was funded by USDA and that followed almost 1200 rural school children across 5 years. Dr. Harrist is co-editor of a book published in 2012 by APA Press entitled, Authoritative parenting: Synthesizing nurturance and discipline for optimal child development. She has served as contributing editor for Child Development and has been on the editorial board of the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. Dr. Harrist is currently president of the Society for Research on Human Development.
