Archaeology Meets Science ― Biomolecular Investigations in Bronze Age Greece: The Primary Scientific Evidence 1997 - 2003

Editors Tzedakis (Director General of Antiquities (emeritus), Hellenic Ministry of Culture, Greece), Martlew (The Holley Martlew Archaeological Foundation) and Jones (archaeology, U. of Cambridge) present work from the project Archaeology Meets Science, which was initiated in 1997 in order to create an in-depth application of state of the art scientific analyses to ceramic artifacts and skeletal material from the Bronze Age Greece. Some results of the project were presented in a 1999-2004 traveling exhibition that appeared in Greece, the US, the UK, Sweden, and Italy. Three sections discuss first, the organic residue analysis in ceramic artifacts and the methods and primary evidence for analytical results in the ceramic artifacts from the Neolithic and Bronze Age sites; second, methods and primary evidence for stable isotope analysis for the skeletal materials in the Neolithic and Bronze Age sites; and finally, lessons for the future, including protocols, problems, and prospects.
