This text is an extension of an article co-authored by Giulanotta and Robertson that originally appeared in the British Journal of Sociology. Now spanning five chapters and 199 pages, this book focuses on the globalized sociological impacts of the sport that Americans call "soccer," and the rest of the world, "football." Individual chapters cover the history, culture, economics, politics, and social impact of the sport's international expansion. Aside from their mutual love of the game, Robertson and Giulanotta are both trained academics (Robertson studies globalization issues; Giulanotta is a researcher in the social sciences), and the analysis and structure of this text reflect that background.
