It shows the will of pursuing the true. We’re going through the architecture for looking at the genius loci of every piece of lands. Try to raise the dialogue between the architecture and the place and create the harmony within people’s lives. It’s hoped to close architecture and locus by the design suggestion.

建築路漫漫，潛心慢慢行

「建築路漫漫，潛心慢慢行」--我常以此句勉勵建築路上的年輕後輩，今日也以此句送給畢業的同學們。

畢業設計可能有些人一生只有一次的機會，從老師亦步亦趨的教學帶領進階到同學自己尋找基地、尋找機能，尋找想要探討的議題。可以嚴謹的探求真實，也可以天馬行空任意發揮想像，同學應當把握機會，好好地玩一下，Enjoy it！

建築是個大器晚成的行業，學校的教育給予同學們富含養分的土壤，日後是否得以成長茁壯，仍有賴各位持續的努力，畢業後又是一個新的開始，同學在校培養心、眼、手各項技能的敏銳度，在「實構築」的建築世界裡，將面對真的材料、構造、結構，需保持主動學習與自由開放的心態，知其然，知其所以然，逐步將所知吸收整合成為可用的知識，才能應用在設計的各個層面。同時需保持熱情與好奇心，對環境好奇、對自己好奇，探求台灣這片土地與自身各種內在和外在的關係，永遠不滿足於已知，不滿足於自己所做的，才能對基地重新定義，對program重新定義。未來，路不會是平坦的，同學們將碰到一次又一次的失敗與挑戰，成功的動力來自這次失敗與下次失敗之間，唯獨，熱情不減！

最後，在專業的領域上，期許各位同學要有奮鬥不懈的毅力及責任心，面對畢業設計如此，面對任何事物亦當如此----盡己所能，全力以赴。

I always encourage young generation with these words, you still have a long way to go in this fields, so keep calm and carry on. Now for you who are going to graduate from this college, those words would help you somewhere in the future!
This graduation art work might be the first but also the last chance for certain. At the beginning, you follow professor’s schedule and instruction. With time passing, you start looking for ideal materials for the issue that you are interested in. Either discovering the reality or realizing your own imagination is fun. You should grab such valuable chance. Enjoy it!
You might get the sense of accomplishment after a long while, compared with other careers, and this is and architecture is all about. All you learn from campus would enhance your soft skills which still need your continuous efforts to realize it. Graduation means another beginning. From now on, you will deal with materials, structure, and construction by making use of your sensitivity. Be active, passionate, and open-minded. You have to know what you’re doing and why you do it. Coordinating a variety of knowledge helps a lot on designing. Curiosity to natures, to oneself plays an important role as well. It would always be our responsibility to unearth this land inclusively. The best way to keep us forwards is to understand how much we lack and how well we could be. By thinking this way, we would renew and reproduce our ideas for every program. There are a plenty of challenges in the future. Failures and challenges push you towards successes. Passion is the least thing to lose!
All in all, I hope you have perseverance and the sense of responsibility to your graduation work and even to the future. Devote yourself fully and do you best!

建築這一行存在的意義到底是甚麼？

建築這一行存在的意義到底是甚麼？我想了很久，我只知道我們無論如何都不會是環境友善者，所以「永續」這種怪詞根本不能幫我們脫困，誰永續呢？人類永續的話其他物種哪有活路？其他物種永續的話人類哪有發展？況且不管是好看或是難看的建築物，不管得獎還是不想得獎，不管綠建築還是紅建築，建築行為本來就是一種消耗性的行為，試問今日的房子有哪棟不是環境凶器？即便是世界節能模範生的魯爾工業區，我都相信不蓋更好，因為我們常常忘記，拆掉舊屋蓋新房時，那些無以數計的垃圾不會憑空消失，不管新的建設有多節能；挖掉一塊土地搞開發時，那塊土地的相關種種永遠不會回來，不管你通過多少次環評，所以現在我們只能以拖待變，期待有一天有個救世主或外星人可以替我們解圍，因為我們非常清楚，縱使明天人類突然集體發狂，放棄所有房子不再建設，全部回歸山頂洞人的生活模式，既成的破壞早已無可挽回，對於建築師而言，假如我們知道一塊簡單的橡膠地磚跟許多生物棲地的消失有關、一塊雨林木頭的使用可以導致許多物種的滅亡，不知道大家還敢不敢繼續執業？所以我常提醒自己，如果為了生活而必須執業、如果只有這項謀生技能而別無所長，那就要認真！認真執行每一個設計案，不要亂搞造型亂耍花招（損料也是搞死地球的兇手之一），盡量讓每個案子都可以用上很久，最重要的是：不要再自以為是個藝術家！隨便一個多產的藝術家，終其一生所製造的垃圾量也不及一個癟腳建築師的千萬分之一，不知我們為何有臉自況？

What is the ultimate reason for architecture industries’ existence? I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. I just know no matter what we’re never going to be someone who’s eco-friendly. So, weird word like:” sustainability” is not going to help us get away. Who’s sustainability? If human last forever, what species can be immortal? If other species last forever, where’s the future of human? Not even to mention the architecture is well-designed or not, won a prize or not tending to or whether it is green architecture or not Construction itself is a consuming act. Which building nowadays is not a weapon to the ecology? Even the role model of energy saving like The Ruhr Area, I believe it would be better without it. Because we often forget, when we tear down old building to get a new one, those numerous waste is not going to disappear out of nowhere. No matter how energy-saving it would be.
When we to dig a parcel of land to develop. Everything about that land is never going to be back.
No matter how many environment impact assessments it passes. All we can do is just stalling for the changes. Hoping someday there would be a Messiah or an alien to rescue us. Because we clearly know, even if tomorrow, human collectively out of their mind that they cease building all the houses. And go back living like the caveman. What is done is done and there is no turning back. As for architects, if we know a small rubber tile is related to the destruction of many creature’s habitats. Using a piece of rainforest wood will cause many species’ extinction. Do you dare to practice still? So I often remind myself, if I practice to live, if it is the only life skill I got and I can do nothing else. Then take it seriously.
Execute every project seriously. Don’t try to be fancy or play tricks (material loss is one of the earth killer) Try to make every project last. Most of all: “DON”T THINK OF YOURSELF AS AN ARTIST! ”
Any productive artist, produce less than quadrillionth waste compare with a crappy architect in a lifetime. Why we dare to compare ourselves with that?
