Seeking a bottoms-up interpretive approach to political science, Bevir (political science, U. of California, Berkeley) and Rhodes (political science, Australian National U.) work from ethnographic fieldwork in a broader context of traditions in the study and practice of politics. They argue that "situated agency," the ways people believe and act within tradition, plays a key role in interpretive political science. Using British governance as the case in point, they interpret traditions such as particularly British political sciences, Westminster models, and de-centering governance, and in reading practices they examine the Blair "presidency," everyday life in a ministry, and reform within the National Health Service and the police.
